Andrea L

Andrea was born in San Francisco, an animal lover from the start. She even shared her crib with a litter of kittens. She grew up in Hawaii, where her family kept many creatures from fish to farm animals. Andrea made the move to Portland in 1989 and after many years of working in various types of customer service, she entered the veterinary field in 2012.

Andrea started off working at North Portland Veterinary Hospital (now part of the VCA family) as a Veterinary Client Service Representative where she built up her skills working in a ten doctor practice. While there, she also worked as a doctors assistant in exam rooms and assisted with a variety of administrative tasks allowing her the chance to have a greater understanding of the inner workings of the practice. Andrea has also spent time working with Compassionate Care, supporting clients through end of life care for their beloved companions (a part of pet care that she is passionate about) and with Heartfelt Veterinary Hospital as a part of the front desk team providing care to owners and their furry friends.

Andrea joined Brooklyn Yard Veterinary Hospital as part of the startup team. She is our main Client Service Representative (Receptionist +) and she can be found at the front desk answering phones and greeting clients, patients and visitors. Andrea is excited about being part of a smaller, more personal hospital and of Dr. Alayson Phelps’s vision of building a practice that provides modern, comprehensive and compassionate care. Recently, Andrea become Fear Free Certified. A movement that is close to her heart as she knows first hand how much better pet care can be if all pets (but especially cats) can become comfortable at the vet.

Andrea has made the Woodlawn neighborhood her home. She lives there with her husband Jon and their feline children (Willow, Shifty, Oliver, Dash and Astrid Furriosa). They hope at some point the cats will allow them to add a dog or maybe a guinea pig to the family! She spends her free time reading, working in the yard, drinking Tiki drinks and enjoying the Pacific Northwest.
