Brooklyn Yard Veterinary Hospital is brand new, independently owned, modern, small animal hospital centrally located in SE Portland’s vibrant Brooklyn neighborhood. We are slated to open in late January 2019 and are looking for exceptional team members to grow and lead our hospital. We aim to break the mold of “one-size fits all” veterinary medicine and will offer tailored veterinary care focusing on what is important to our clients and the health of their pet.

Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT)

Brooklyn Yard Veterinary Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual to join our brand new veterinary hospital as a full-time Certified Veterinary Technician. This individual will be an integral part of our start-up hospital and must have impeccable communication skills, superior technical skills, the ability to multi-task, and strive to provide the best in patient care.

The right candidate must be committed to providing an exceptional client and patient experience. The ideal applicant must have compassion for both people and animals, the ability to anticipate client and patient needs, be flexible, and strive to always promote a polished image of our hospital.

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Room management & digital record keeping (our practice management system is Ezyvet)

  • Answering phone calls and assisting clients with scheduling appointments and pet health questions

  • Client education

  • Patient handling and restraint with an emphasis on low stress handling/Fear Free

  • Medication administration & filling prescriptions

  • Venipuncture & IVC placement

  • Digital radiology

  • Processing of laboratory samples for both in-house evaluation and reference lab service

  • Dental prophylaxis & intraoral radiology

  • Medical equipment and instrument maintenance

  • Peri-operative care

  • Interpreting veterinarian orders and our protocols to work autonomously

  • Tackling projects as assigned

Successful candidates will:

  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Have a strong work ethic and will present a polished image of BYVH

  • Have the ability to pay attention to the little details that makes a superior client/patient experience. Our veterinarians are Fear Free™ certified and put a strong emphasis on low stress visits for our patients.

  • Be inquisitive, ask questions, and know how to utilize resources

  • Be a self-starting individual of integrity who is adaptable and accountable

  • Supervisory experience, while not required, would be an excellent attribute as the right candidate may have the opportunity for a leadership role as our hospital grows.

The requirements:

  • Must have a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) license in the state of OR

  • Availability to work weekends and be reliable

  • Ability to comfortably lift 40 lbs

  • Have strong communication skills with the desire to be a part of a team.

  • Previous experience as a CVT in a small animal hospital
