We are proud to be partnering with the exceptional and credentialed trainers at Plucky Puppy to offer in hospital socialization and training classes at Brooklyn Yard Veterinary Hospital!
Puppy socialization classes are one of the best investments you can make for the benefit of your new puppy and yourself, according to the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB).
For puppies, the single most important part of a behavioral wellness program is proper socialization during their critical developmental period, which ends by 16 weeks. These are the key weeks to introduce the puppy to as many new things as possible in a protective and thoughtful way to ensure positive experiences and learning without overwhelming the puppy. Owners must begin socialization the day they bring their new puppies home because the clock is ticking!
Proper socialization combined with positive reinforcement-based training in the context of a group puppy class help puppies grow into well-adjusted pets. Classes provide critical socialization time with a variety of people and other puppies. Studies clearly demonstrate that when owners invest in training classes, they are much more likely to keep their pets instead of relinquishment because of behavior issues.
This is a weekly drop-in puppy social offered on Wednesdays at 10 am and Saturdays at 4 pm. Socials focus on teaching puppies appropriate play and communication skills, positive exposure to people and handling, and general confidence building. Socials are appropriate for very young puppies with one set of DHPP vaccinations. Our hospital is disinfected prior to puppy socials to make the area as safe as possible for young puppies. Pups from 8 to 20 weeks old may attend. Pups must have been healthy and in your home for at least seven days prior to first social. $20 per drop-in, or package of 5 for $90. Online registration or RSVP by phone or email required.
