Mara has a passion for working with animals starting from a young age. What started as taking in stray cats and kittens off the street and hiding them in their room as a kid, quickly blossomed into full-time fostering for their local animal shelter through their teens and early twenties.

Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, Mara moved to Portland in 2019 to pursue a career in animal welfare. They spent over five and a half years at Cat Adoption Team (CAT) where they developed a strong knowledge of feline health and behavior. They left CAT in 2025 to further their career in veterinary medicine. 

Though a lover of all animals, Mara is most passionate about felines and cohabitates with four of their own; Steve, Agnes, Sticky Rice the adventure rescue Fold, and tripod Spatula. When they're not in a cuddle puddle with those guys, they can be found doing a puzzle, going on long walks, camping, birding, or staring at the ocean.
